Omega Labyrinth Life is a roguelike. The main gameplay loop involves battling through procedurally-generated dungeons to find better equipment and ωP (omega points). In between dungeons, you can spend your ωP at the Academy to buy items and upgrade your equipment.
The story quests will have you working to restore a large garden at the Academy. Planting and harvesting flowers in the garden gives you upgrade materials for your equipment and also earns you another currency called nectar that can be used to perform actions called Skill Blooms. Performing Skill Blooms allows you to permanently upgrade your characters with new skills and higher base stats.
To thrive in this game, you need to find and upgrade gear to be as powerful as you can and max out your Skill Blooms for each of your characters.
When you select a dungeon to enter, you'll be given the choice of choosing whether to bring a partner with you.
You'll also eventually unlock the ability to visit the Spa before entering dungeons. Visiting the Spa grants one temporary positive status effect.
You can also unlock the ability to bring ωP with you into dungeons. Doing so makes it easier to buy things from vendors you encounter in dungeons. You also need ωP to identify unknown items (through a process called Size Up), so bringing ωP with you will allow you to perform more Size Ups faster.
Every time you enter a dungeon, you and your partner start at level 1. You gain levels by killing enemies.
Items that give your character bonuses, like increasing your max HP, are not permanent. However, items that give your equipment bonuses, like increasing their level or granting protection from rust and curses, are permanent.
If you die in a dungeon, you lose all of your equipped gear and all the items you were carrying. Death is very punishing.
You can also lose all your equipped gear and the items you were carrying if you close out of the game inappropriately. This game does not allow reloading previous saves. If you try to avoid a bad outcome by closing the application, the game will treat it like a death and when you reload your game, your stuff will be gone. There is a way to save-scum, but it is not an intended gameplay feature. If you'd like to learn how to do this, see the Cheats section for details.
Most dungeons are procedurally-generated. Every time you visit them, everything will be randomized, including the floor layouts and the items you find. There is consistency to the dungeons though. Each dungeon will always have the same types of enemies and the same types of items.
Some of the early dungeons are always the same though. They'll always have the same floor layouts with the same items and same monsters every time you visit them. This is something you can take advantage of, if you want to farm some of the items in these dungeons. The dungeons you can take advantage of for item farming will be called out during the walkthrough section of this guide.
When taking on dungeons, keep the following tips in mind:
- Bring Fairy Wings
- Having Fairy Wings in your inventory allows you to keep your equipment and items if you die.
- Bring an Escape Tome
- Make sure to always have at least one Escape Tome in your inventory. Most of this game is relatively easy, but when things go wrong in this game, they go wrong very quickly.
- Bring Preservation Purses
- You can only carry 30 items. Increase your carrying capacity by bringing Preservation Purses with you.
- The items you carry can be negatively changed by traps and monsters
- If you're hit with fire, whether it's from an enemy attack or a trap, the bread in your inventory might turn into Burnt Bread. This usually makes your bread much worse. The only exception is if your inventory is filled with Moldy Bread (which can happen from stepping on a specific trap), in which case, turning it into Burnt Bread will actually be an improvement.
- There's monsters that can change random items in your inventory into other, usually worse, items. In some cases, this isn't too problematic, but there are times when enemies may target critical items in your inventory, such as Escape Tomes or Fairy Wings.
- You can protect items in your inventory by placing them in purses
- Bread in purses cannot be burned by fire and items in purses cannot be targeted with monster skills that change items.
- However, keep in mind that purses themselves can still be targeted by item change effects, so be careful about putting all your important items in one purse because you'll lose them if the purse is changed into something else.
- Your equipment can be stolen
- Be aware that some monsters in later dungeons can steal the equipment you're wearing.
- You can prevent your equipment being stolen if you have the Block Theft effect active, which can be gained from Spas or added to your equipment via the Assimilator.
- Beware of being disarmed
- Some enemies can knock your equipped gear off. If this happens, your gear will fly behind you. If your equipment is knocked off and hits another monster, you'll lose that equipment permanently because the game will treat it as if the item was thrown with the intent to do damage.
- Additionally, some enemies pick items up and throw them. If your disarmed equipment is thrown at you by another monster, you'll lose it if it hits you.
- You can prevent being disarmed if you have the Block Unequipping effect active, which can be gained from Spas or added to your equipment via the Assimilator.
- Monsters can also level up
- If a monster kills your partner or another monster, it will level up. If a monster levels up, it evolves and becomes a monster one tier higher. For example, if a Kabutomushi kills something, it will become a Kabutosmashy; if a Kabutosmashy kills something, it will become a Kabutobashy. This evolution makes the affected monster much more powerful. There's an extremely high chance that if a monster manages to level up, it will be capable of killing you in one or two hits. If you see a monster level up, do whatever you can to escape the situation.
- Pay close attention to item descriptions
- Many items have interesting effects. For example, a Potion doesn't just heal you. If you drink one while your HP is already full, you'll increase your max HP while in that dungeon.
- Item descriptions also describe things like weapon accuracy, critical hit rate, weapon range, and whether a weapon can attack multiple squares at once.
When in the Academy, keep the following tips in mind:
- You can get one free meal from the vendor outside the Academy shop every day
- The meals at this vendor have powerful effects and can't be burned or turned moldy.
- Save your nectar for Skill Blooms
- There's a vendor outside the Academy shop that offers gardening items for nectar. Do not use your nectar here until your Skill Blooms are maxed.
- Buy new Skill Blooms from the Academy Shop as soon as they become available
- Skill Blooms are how you learn new skills. Make sure to purchase each new Skill Bloom as soon as it becomes available.
- Get each Skill Bloom to at least level 1
- Each Skill Bloom unlocks a new usable skill at level 1. Make sure to prioritize getting each new Skill Bloom to level 1 so you can use the new skill.
When managing your garden, keep the following tips in mind:
- Whenever you unlock a new part of the garden, make sure to plant flowers in it immediately
- At the start of every day, you gain bonus nectar for how many flowers your garden has.
- Don't let weeds grow in your garden
- Every few days your garden will begin to grow weeds. If you don't get rid of the weeds, you'll begin earning less bonus nectar each day.
- Gardening can be done in bulk
- You can plant, water, and harvest multiple garden plots at one time if you manage your garden from the bulletin board. The same button that lets you select multiple items in your inventory also lets you select multiple garden plots. This makes garden management significantly faster.
- Planting flowers automatically removes weeds
- You can get rid of the weeds from your garden if you plant new flowers.
Keep the following tips in mind regarding your equipment:
- Weapons and shields have four versions (i.e. tiers)
- Weapons and shields have four versions that fall into one of four tiers. The tier is denoted by the Max Luster value, with it being either 25, 50, 75, or 99. For instance, a Short Sword has 25 Max Luster; it's tier 2 form, the Gladius, has 50 Max Luster; the Laevateinn is tier 3 at 75 Max Luster; the Goddess Sword is tier 4 at 99 Max Luster. The Max Luster value indicates how many times the item can have its stats upgraded.
- You won't begin to get tier 2 gear (i.e. 50 Max Luster) until near the end of the main storyline quests. Tier 3 and 4 weapons and shields can only be found in "The Secrets of the Clock Tower" and "A Distant Garden" Challenge Dungeons.
- Pay attention to item descriptions
- As mentioned previously, item descriptions for weapons include information about weapon accuracy, critical hit rate, weapon range, and whether a weapon can attack multiple squares at once.
- You can beat the main storyline quests with tier 1 equipment
- You can upgrade tier 1 equipment enough to beat the game with it. You'll obviously have an easier time doing it with tier 2 (or better) equipment, but the main storyline is easy enough that you don't need high end equipment.
- You need tier 3 or 4 equipment to beat the hardest content
- While the main storyline quests are easy, "The Secrets of the Clock Tower" Challenge Dungeon will require the best weapons and shields you can find.
- The very best weapon and shield sets are:
- Holy Omega Sword + Aegis
- The set bonus grants Protection, which prevents negative status effects.
- Holy Omega Sword has the highest physical attack power.
- Holy Omega Sword attacks all eight squares surrounding you.
- Omega Flora Sword + Shield of Fleur
- The set bonus causes the Holy Blossom effect to periodically trigger when you hit monsters.
- Omega Flora Sword has the highest magic attack power.
- Omega Flora Sword attacks all eight squares surrounding you and an additional row of three squares in front of you beyond that.
- The very best bra and panty combo is Goddess Bra + Goddess Panties
- The set bonus protects you from Instant Death attacks.
- The best effects you can grant your weapons from the Assimilator are:
- Mighty Blow - all attacks are critical
- Dead Aim - attacks never miss
- Add Slow - when it triggers, the affected enemy is only able to act every other turn
- Instant Death - when it triggers, the affected enemy dies immediately
- The best effects you can grant your shields from the Assimilator are:
- Reflect Magic - reflects magic attacks back at the attacker
- Nimble - dodges all projectiles that don't deal AoE damage
- Reduced Hunger - slows down the rate you get hungry
- Reflect Physical - causes you to counterattack
- The best effects you can grant your bras from the Assimilator are:
- Floating - you no longer trigger traps
- Block Theft - prevents your equipment from being stolen
- Protection - prevents negative status effects
- Block Instant Death - prevents Instant Death attacks
- Various combinations of these four will always be useful.
- If you use the Holy Omega Sword + Aegis set, you don't need Protection anymore.
- If you use the Goddess bra and panty set, you don't need Block Instant Death anymore.
- The best effects you can grant your panties from the Assimilator are:
- Block Unequipping - prevents enemies from knocking your equipment off
- Protection - prevents negative status effects
- Block Level Down - prevents enemies from lowering your character level
- Block Instant Death - prevents Instant Death attacks
- Various combinations of these four will always be useful.
- If you use the Holy Omega Sword + Aegis set, you don't need Protection anymore.
- If you use the Goddess bra and panty set, you don't need Block Instant Death anymore.
- If you have the DLC, the best early game weapons and shields are:
- Pacifier Sword + Drool Shield
- The set bonus grants Block Tumble, which prevents you from slipping and dropping items.
- These items can be purchased from the Academy shop and come with four open slots each.
- This is the best early game set to equip your main character.
- Queen's Whip + Bondage Shield
- The set bonus grants STR+10
- These items can be purchased from the Academy shop and come with four open slots each.
- This is the best early game set to equip your partner.
You can steal from Rinka's shops in dungeons.
The easiest way to steal from Rinka's dungeon shops is to use a Tome of Ascending / Tome of Descending (or a Blank Book rewritten to one of those) after walking away with her merchandise. These are late game items though.
You can kill Reaper by bringing Hinata with her Unbreakable Heart skill learned with a Haste Potion, an HP-Swapping Wand, and an Escape Tome in your inventory.
Reaper takes two actions each turn. Lure Reaper close and drink the Haste Potion when Reaper is within 2 or 3 squares from Hinata. The goal is to position Hinata so that Reaper can move next to her on one turn and kill her on the second turn. This will trigger her Unbreakable Heart skill in the process and Hinata will revive with 1 HP.
Now on her turns, swing the HP-Swapping Wand at Reaper and then use her Botanical Blaze skill to kill it. Reaper can drop a Goddess Scythe, but it's not a guaranteed drop, so you may have to kill it repeatedly.
Use the Escape Tome when you need to leave the dungeon.
After clearing all dungeons (including Challenge Dungeons), you'll unlock Stoic Mode. Stoic Mode allows you to replay all dungeons over again but in a harder way.
Stoic Mode is the exact same dungeons with the same enemies, but you no longer get any benefit from Skill Blooms. This means you don't get to use any of the active or passive skills they provide and you don't get any of the stat bonuses they unlocked. You also don't get any TFT petals.
All the gold rewards for clearing stages reset in this mode, meaning you can re-earn all the dungeon rewards. However, at this point, mission clear rewards are virtually worthless.
Additionally, instead of mission clear rewards being denoted with gold medals, you now get gold trophies instead. This is just an aesthetic change.
There are no additional rewards for clearing all stages in Stoic Mode. This is just a mode to challenge yourself.
The Challenge Dungeons are absolutely miserable experiences in Stoic Mode, especially A Distant Garden. There's no benefit to clearing Stoic Mode, beyond bragging rights.
