Moero Crystal H Strategy Guide: Combat Overview

Combat

Moero Crystal H has turn-based battles where you command the main character Zenox and a party of up to five monster girls.

Turn order is displayed on the top of the screen in battles. Enemies can be easily identified in the turn order by the red lines around their portraits.

Desire

Desire is a mechanic that can be built up during battle and will allow Zenox to either:

  • Use Release to unleash his stored Desire on one of your monster girls, granting her one turn with elevated stats.
  • Use Insert and spend 30% Desire to move one of your monster girls to a spot in the turn order of your choosing.

Zenox will enter Calm State when his Desire reaches 100%. While in Calm State, Zenox cannot issue any commands and effectively has his turns skipped until his Desire drops back down to 0%.

As Zenox's Desire level increases, so does the chance that he becomes too excited and enters Calm State early, automatically sending his Desire to 100%.

Desire does have some uses but the mechanic is largely unnecessary for most of the game. It can be a little helpful in some of the early game battles though.

Zenox's Turn

Zenox behaves differently than the monster girls during combat. He does not have any hit points or standard attacking moves. He uses the Desire mechanic and is also the only character who can use items or attempt to escape from battle.

Zenox has the following options available for his turn:

Store

  • This increases his Desire.

Release

  • This causes Zenox to release his Desire on one monster girl, returning his Desire level to 0% and giving the selected monster girl a stat boost for one turn.

Insert

  • This option only becomes available if Zenox has a Desire level of 30% or more. Insert gives you the ability to put one of your monster girls anywhere in the current turn order. This option is useful for performing Erotic Methods.

Item

  • Zenox is the only character who can use items. Even though Zenox doesn't have any standard attack moves, he is able to attack using offensive items, if they're available.

Wait

  • This causes Zenox to take no action this turn.

Escape

  • This attempts escape from battle. Not every battle can be escaped from.

While Zenox has no hit points, some enemy monster girls will target him directly with a stun attack. If he gets hit, he will be unable to take action until the effect wears off.

Monster Girls' Turns

Each monster girl has several options available during their turns:

Attack

  • This is a basic physical attack.

Skill

  • This opens the submenu of skill moves available to that monster girl. Some moves are offensive in nature, while others are used for healing or support.

Defend

  • This causes the monster girl to defend herself, which causes her to take less damage from enemy attacks this turn.

Charm

  • This will either increase Zenox's Desire or it will decrease his Calm Time (which speeds up his Calm State recovery time).

Attack Types

There are two types of attacks monster girls perform: physical and magic.

Physical attacks include the standard "Attack" combat option, but they also include any option in the Skill menu with a sword icon. Physical attacks are only at full strength in the front row. They will deal half damage from the rear row.

Magic attacks are ranged in nature. They include any option in the Skill menu with a pentagram icon. Ranged attacks are not affected by which row the monster girl is in. It's best to place magic attackers in the rear row.

Elements

Monster girls and enemies are all aligned with different elements. The four elements are Fire, Water, Earth, and Air.

  • Fire attacks are strong against Air.
  • Water attacks are strong against Fire.
  • Earth attacks are strong against Water.
  • Air attacks are strong against Earth.

Although the symbol for Air contains the letter A, the game refers to Air attacks as Wind attacks.

Moe Traits

Each monster girl has Moe Traits which cause Moe Effects in battle if certain conditions are met. For example, the monster girl Tet has a chance of reducing damage to your party by 15% if her HP is full.

If a monster girl in your party is currently providing an active Moe Effect, you will see a message in battle that reads "Moe Trait in Effect" and pressing the X button will show you what that effect is currently doing.

The full list of Moe Traits can be found here.

Aura Combos

An Aura Combo occurs when your party scores consecutive attacks against the enemy party with the elements they're weak to.

Building up an Aura Combo will increase the amount of experience and Rub P that you receive after battle. You do not have to finish the battle with the Aura Combo for it to count towards the bonus. For instance, if you build up an Aura Combo of 5 during the course of battle, you'll still get credit for that even if the battle ends with your Aura Combo currently at 0.

Your Aura Combo will continue to build as long as each hit you score against the enemy party targets their weak element. Performing attacks that don't target their weak element will reset the combo back to 0.

Enemy attacks do not affect your Aura Combo, nor does any healing or support moves you perform that don't target an enemy.

For example, if your Aura Combo is currently at 4 and you get hit by the enemy, your combo will NOT reset back to 0. If your Aura Combo is at 4 and you heal yourself, that will not reset your combo either.

Excite Gauge

In the upper right corner of the battle screen is the heart-shaped Excite Gauge. This gauge is present in every battle but it only fills up in battles against enemy monster girls.

This gauge fills up by destroying pieces of clothing on a monster girl or by targeting the monster girl herself with the element she's weak to. This concept will be discussed more here.

While this gauge only fills up during enemy monster girl battles, it does serve a purpose in every battle, including random encounters. Otton, the creature by the gauge, will begin to get angry if you target any enemy with an element it's weak to that doesn't kill it or lead to a monster girl's clothes breaking.

As Otton's anger increases, he will reach a point where he unleashes a powerful attack. After unleashing this attack, his anger will reset and his anger can be charged up for another attack.

Enemy Monster Girls

While exploring dungeons, you will encounter enemy monster girls.

Monster girls themselves have a health bar but the clothing they're wearing also has its own health bars. Clothing comes with its own elemental weaknesses as well and depleting clothing health bars causes the clothing to break.

When clothing breaks, the Excite Gauge fills partially. The amount it fills is based on how many pieces of clothing the monster girl is wearing. For example, if she's wearing three pieces of clothing, the gauge will fill 1/3 of the way for each piece of clothing destroyed.

Destroying all of a monster girl's clothes will cause the Excite Gauge to fill completely, causing the Battle Scratch minigame to trigger. Successfully completing the Battle Scratch will allow you to recruit the monster girl.

However, you can also fill the gauge without completely destroying all of a monster girl's clothes. While destroying the clothing fills the Excite Gauge, so does dealing damage to the monster girl with the element she's weak to. If you plan your attacks carefully, you can fill the gauge without destroying all of her clothes.

Filling up the Excite Gauge without destroying all of a monster girl's clothes triggers a time bonus in the Battle Scratch called Gent Bonus. It's not necessary to get a Gent Bonus though, as you will not need the extra time if you know how to beat the Battle Scratch minigames (which this guide will help with).

Your focus when fighting monster girls should just be getting the Excite Gauge filled through some combination of destroying her clothes and dealing the type of elemental damage she's weak to.

Failing to fill the Excite Gauge before depleting an enemy monster girl's hit points will cause her to run away, and so will failing the Battle Scratch minigame. If this happens, you will have to leave the dungeon and come back to respawn the monster girl. If it's a quest-related battle, the monster girl will stay on the map and you will not have to respawn her by leaving and coming back.

If you've acquired a Monster Girl Crystal, you may use it by following the on-screen prompt and pressing the Y button after the Excite Gauge has been filled and Otton begins raining coins on the monster girl.

Using a Monster Girl Crystal allows you to skip the Battle Scratch minigame for the time being and tackle it later from the Training option from the town menu. This makes it easier to recruit monster girls because you can save while in town and just reload your game if you fail the Battle Scratch.

Battle Rewards

For winning a battle you will receive the following:

EXP

  • Experience. This is what levels up the monster girls.

Rub P

  • Rub points. This is the currency required to do Love Scratch / Double Scratch minigames in the Inn.

Gold

  • This is the currency used for buying items and purchasing upgrades.

Souls

  • Souls are a currency used at the Soul Temple for various upgrades

Items

  • You win basic items from battle.
  • Some monsters spawn with a heart icon overhead. These monsters have a chance of dropping a specific costume (but only when they spawn with the heart). Costumes can only be collected once.

You will receive additional rewards for achieving a high Aura Combo during battle. In addition to higher EXP and Rub P earned, there's a greater chance of winning more items.

Auto Play & Fast Forward

During battle, if you press the Y button while it's your turn to act you will enter Auto Play mode.

In this mode, the battle will be fought for you automatically. Zenox will only use the Store command and your monster girls will only use the Attack command.

Alternatively, you can use the Auto Play mode to repeat the last set of commands you entered in battle. To do so, press the + button to change the mode from Auto to Repeat.

After entering Auto Play, if you hold down the R button you will speed up the gameplay significantly.

Through the use of Auto Play and Fast Forward, you can greatly speed up random encounters. This is especially useful for any part of the game where you are significantly stronger than the enemy mobs in the area and just want the random battles to end quickly.

To exit Auto Play, press the B button at any time.

Be careful when using Fast Forward. If you're underpowered, this can get your party wiped out quickly.

48 Erotic Methods

There is a mechanic called Erotic Methods (of which, there are 48).

An Erotic Method is a double team move performed by executing two specific moves in a row during battle. The moves must be performed consecutively with no interruption.

Successful execution of an Erotic Method will trigger a special animation followed by a bonus attack or support skill.

The moves required for each Erotic Method are listed here.
